'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2' Loses Director Tommy Wirkola

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters director Tommy Wirkola states in a new interview with Fangoria that he is no longer directing Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2, just one week after having revealed that the script is finished.
Here's what the filmmaker had to say, stating that he still hopes to be involved in the project, just not as a director.
"I've just decided to not direct Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2. I have been lately attached to a few more things, it's just a matter of time and priorities. I did Dead Snow 1, then Hansel & Gretel 1, and then Dead Snow 2. I want to do something a little bit different now and not just do sequels. I did write the script and I hope to be involved in it. But yeah, I won't be directing it."
Last week, the filmmaker turned his script in to Paramount Pictures, which was received positively by the studio. The director also hinted last week that star Jeremy Renner may not be available due to his busy schedule. No story details have been given about the screenplay that Tommy Wirkola just turned in.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was set 15 years after the title siblings' (Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton) incident at the gingerbread house, with the brother and sister now making their living as bounty hunters who track down witches and other nefarious creatures. The 2013 film took $226 million worldwide from a $50 million production budget.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton.
