Is John Boyega Playing a Classic Character in 'Star Wars: Episode VII'?

Yesterday, Badass Digest revealed the opening scene and new plot details for Star Wars: Episode VII, which gave us some mild spoilers about the film.

***** SPOILER ALERT *****

The site have since updated their previous report, and now claim that John Boyega will play an AWOL Stormtrooper who is on a mission to redeem himself.

This unnamed Stormtrooper winds up in the desert, where he meets Daisy Ridley's character. Together; they find a hand that reportedly holds Luke Skywalker's lightsaber. Badass Digest goes onto hint that the desert planet we think is Tatooine is not actually Tatooine, but another desert planet. That doesn't quite match up with the set videos we've seen, which clearly hint at a return to Luke Skywalker's home planet.

It is not known in what state the galaxy is in at the beginning of Star Wars: Episode VII. Or how far the Empire has fallen. Or if we'll even see John Boyega in traditional Stormtrooper armor. It is stated that John Boyega being a Stormtrooper is the most solid piece of story information, and has been confirmed by numerous sources.

Yesterday's story goes onto reveal that Han Solo and Chewbacca meet up with this disenfranchised Stormtrooper and his new female companion as they go on a galaxy wide search for a missing Luke. This was stated in earlier reports. New to the story is the fact that these friends have not seen each other in the 30 years since Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.

We'll just leave you with this...Isn't John Boyega a little short to be a Stormtrooper?
Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters December 18th, 2015 and stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong'o. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.
