'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Will Not Feature 'Planet Hulk' Storyline

Earlier this month, we reported that the long-rumored Planet Hulk story line may be used in the impending sequel Guardians of the Galaxy 2. This would follow the Guardians as they team-up with Hulk on another planet and go on an adventure with him. The end of the movie finds r Hulk returning to Earth along with the Guardians, which leads the villainous Thanos to make his way to Earth.

However, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn revealed in a recent interview with The Playlist that the Planet Hulk rumors are "100% bullshit."

"I can answer that question very easily: it is absolute, 100% bulls--t. It feels like a great relief to finally say this after all the dumb stuff on the Internet. There's not going to be a Planet Hulk movie, there was never going to be a Planet Hulk movie, there was never a plan for the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy - I wouldn't want the Hulk to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy! And it's all a bunch of complete bullshit."

Back in February 2013, a rumor popped up revealing that Marvel wants to make a Planet Hulk movie for Phase Three. While that rumor has been shot down several times over the past year and a half, Mark Ruffalo revealed last month that Marvel is finally warming up to making Planet Hulk a reality, even though he later stated that he doesn't want to be a part of it, since Hulk's human alter-ego Bruce Banner would not be featured in the story.

While doing press for next month's Guardians of the Galaxy, producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige debunked those rumors once again, stating that there are no immediate plans for Planet Hulk. Here's what he had to say, when asked if the challenges in adapting that story line is why the movie has not materialized yet.

"Well that's why there are no plans for Planet Hulk anytime soon. I think what's cool about the Planet Hulk story is it's all Hulk. He's a gladiator, he's fighting all these creatures on another world. Yes, some of those creatures show up in [Guardians of the Galaxy], which makes people think, 'Oh, maybe it could exist.' And maybe it could exist, someday. I don't think that's the first place we would go though for the very reason that you stated, which is, if we were ever able to do a standalone Hulk movie, 60 percent of the fun would be seeing Mark Ruffalo leading a Marvel movie -- and that's what we would do if we ever went down that road."

However, he did say it may happen sometime down the line, although it isn't clear when.

"After the first Avengers, Iron Man had his own movie, Thor had his own movie, Captain America had his own movie, and Widow and Fury were in The Winter Soldier. So it was really about, frankly, saving somebody so that the only place you could get Hulk between Avengers movies is the next Avengers movie, so [director Joss Whedon] could continue to play with that in [Avengers: Age of Ultron]. Where we go after that, we'll see."
