We're the Millers was a huge hit last summer, and has put Rawson Marshall Thurber into high demand. Marvel and Disney are keeping quiet on any speculation, as they hurry to lockdown a confirmed candidate.
Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less director Ruben Fleischer is not completely out of the running. Though, he recently had a baby with his wife, and it sounds like he is very reluctant to take on any project at this time. Fleischer is also said to be the frontrunner to direct the Ghostbusters reboot for Sony, home to his previous films. That long-gestating franchise sequel is much further away from a start date than Ant-Man, which is ready to shoot as soon as possible.
While Adam McKay sounds good on paper, it's a concern of Marvel's that his improvisational method of shooting may not mesh with the studio's mandate. Also, its unlikely that he would want to take over a project another filmmaker has spent a decade prepping, due to the large amount of original projects he already has in the pipeline.
Rawson Marshall Thurber is a director that is willing to take Studio notes, and accommodate the producer's vision for Ant-Man.
