Stephen King Adaptation 'Gerald's Game' Gets Director Mike Flanagan

Oculus director Mike Flanagan has signed on to co-write and direct the Stephen King novel adaptation Gerald's Game, with Trevor Macy set to produce.

The filmmaker is writing the script with his Oculus co-writer Jeff Howard. The story centers on a married couple who engage in a seemingly-harmless contest on a remote retreat, which suddenly escalates into a fight for survival, where Gerald's wife Jessie must confront her long-hidden demons within her mind that lurk within the shadows of their empty house.

Here's what Mike Flanagan had to say about the project in a statement.

"In the tradition of Misery and Dolores Claiborne, Gerald's Game is one of the most intense and compelling novels I've ever read, and this has been a dream project for many years. Trevor and I are very excited to help translate that experience for an audience."

Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy had originally intended for Diver to be their next project, but that has been put on the back burner, with production on Gerald's Game set to begin this fall. Diver will start production sometime in 2015.
