Channing Tatum Confirmed as Gambit in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Campaigning for a role finally pays off. Channing Tatum has been publicly pushing hard to play Remy LeBeau, the Cajun mutant known as Gambit, in the upcoming franchise sequel X-Men: Apocalypse. He gets his wish, as producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed the actor will take over the role from Taylor Kitsch, who played Gambit in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

No official deal is in place just yet, but this is what Lauren Shuler Donner had to say about Channing Tatum taking on the role.

"Well you know he's a rogue, Channing. He's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. He's got a really good heart, because I know him personally, I did a movie with him. So I think he'll be great, he'll be great for Gambit, and he's a southerner too, he's not from New Orleans but he is a southerner and he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans."

Director Bryan Singer had previously teased that he was bringing both Gambit and Nightcrawler back for X-Men: Apocalypse, and it sounds like they will be central characters in the continuation of this Marvel saga. The film will hit theaters in 2016. Expect to hear more details soon as his official casting announcement is expected to drop within days.
X-Men: Apocalypse comes to theaters May 27th, 2016. The film is directed by Bryan Singer.
